The United States Army Military Police (MP) Corps Regiment is the Army’s “Force of Choice.”  The Military Police Corps have five main battlefield missions.  Under these five missions are hundreds of sub missions.  The five Military Police missions are:

· Law and Order

· Area Security

· Maneuver, Mobility Support Operations

· Internment and Resettlement Operations

· Police Intelligence Operations

The MP Corps continues to prove itself as the “Force of Choice” in the war on terror as MP are one of the most in demand and deployed Soldiers in the military.  Wherever there are Soldiers deployed, there are MP working the full spectrum of combat operations.

Most Soldiers think of the Military Police Corps in terms of law enforcement.  The MP Corps does provide all types of professional law enforcement to the Army, but the MP Corps is much more.  The primary focus of the MP Corps is combat operations.  The MP Branch was officially appointed as “combat support” after the Vietnamese (Tet) Offensive of 1968 when the Army realized that the MP Corps was a valuable combat multiplier.

The MP Corps deploys its Soldiers in many different configurations, but the MP team is the building block of the MP Corps.  There are three Soldiers in each MP team.  These teams (and squads) are highly mobile and self sufficient in either a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) or an Armored Security Vehicle (ASV).  The weapon systems a MP team carries are impressive.  Each MP team has at least three M9 pistols, two M4 rifles, one M249 Squad Automatic Weapon, one M203 Grenade Launcher, one MK-19 Automatic Grenade (40 mm) Launcher and/or (depending on the vehicle) one M2 (50 Caliber) Machine Gun.  The MP team can also carry Hand Grenades, Claymore Mines and AT-4 Rocket Launchers depending on the mission.

The Military Police Corps is broken down into four Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) or jobs.

· MOS 31A are Military Police Commissioned Officers

· MOS 31B are Military Police Soldiers

· MOS 31D are Military Police (Criminal Investigation) Soldiers

· MOS 31E are Military Police (Internment Specialist) Soldiers
